Code of Conduct Complaints Dropped
The Rodney District Council has today at its final meeting of the year voted to drop all code of conduct complaints currently before the Council.
Rodney's mayor John Law, who chaired the meeting, said the vote was passed in "the spirit of Christmas" unanimously and by mutual agreement of the affected parties.
It draws to a close a long and sometimes bitter process which at one time saw upwards of four code of conduct complaints leveled against Mayor Law and various councillors.
The councillors, all of whom were in the council chambers for the crucial vote, loudly applauded the move with some stating that "a clean slate" was what was required and would be a great start to the new year.
Council's chief executive officer Vijaya Vaidyanath, who was also in the council chambers for the vote, welcomed the Council's decision. She said it was in many respects like all our Christmases coming at once.
"I am delighted for the Council and for the staff that we can all put this behind us and move on."
