Council Targets Illegal Alcohol Sales

The Rodney District Council Licensing Agency in partnership with NZ Police and Auckland Regional Public Health Service has concluded a controlled purchase operation of liquor stores in the Rodney District.

The operation was aimed at identifying sales of alcohol to underage persons. 20 liquor stores were visited across the whole of Rodney District during the course of the operation.

In what is being hailed as an excellent result by the council and Police only one illegal sale was reported. This sale was the first offence in relation to the store in question. An application will be made to the Licensing Authority for a two day suspension of the off license and a two week suspension of the managers certificate.

More operations are planned for the district over the holiday period and throughout 2006 and the council is asking for public support in identifying premises that may be selling alcohol to underage persons.
