Newtown Festival 2006 - Festival Fair - Sunday 5 March - North Stage Performers
Music is a key element of the Newtown Festival. The performers on the North Stage are well known within music circles and have links to the Newtown Community Performers on the North Stage include
11am Charlie Ash - Charlie ASH is heat. Hot, Hot, Hot! Sparks fly as Charlie ASH high on energy, perform with great gusto their catchy ass tunes. They call themselves Neo-Punk and have a corker of a live show, combining sword, sweat, costume and volume. The band is comprised of 5. Masterminds Rosie Riggir (vox) and Mailee Mathews (bass, keytar) are at the helm. Charlie ASH love show biz and won the “Best Production Design Award” for their original stage show BOX, at Wellingtons Fringe Festival 2005. Back in Wellington, his time at the Newtown Festival
12:30pm Little Bushman - (Warren Maxwell's new band) Featuring Warren Maxwell ex Trinity Roots and Fat Freddy's Drop.
2pm Pearl - Wellington pop duo 'Pearl' is one of New Zealand's most exciting up and coming acts. Their debut single 'Fallacy' is evidence of their fresh approach to the pop genre. The track was featured on NZ On Air's Kiwi Hit Disc #72 released in June 2005 and NZ On Air also provided funding for the 'Fallacy' video.
Pearl's sound is rich, pure harmonies driving hooky, uplifting pop songs. The result: a perfect blend of sophistication and fun.
Both Lisa and Shelley are talented songwriters. Together with executive producer Chris Jones they have developed their unique sound since forming in 2003.
Pearl is currently
working on their debut album, planned for release in early
2006.
3:00pm Koko - 7 piece band featuring highly
respected musicians including up and coming singer song
writer Carleene Murphy on vocals.
Playing a variety of
soulful R & B, the band describe their music as 'Urban Soul
with a hint of Chocolate music for the sweet tooth.'
