Enjoy a free morning tea in the CBD
AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL MEDIA RELEASE
24 March 2006
Enjoy a free morning tea in the CBD
Aucklanders could be in for a pleasant surprise over the next few weeks as part of the Living Room series.
On the mornings of 30 March, 20 April, 11 May and 18 May, people will be popping up unexpectedly to offer morning tea to office workers in different locations on Queen Street and K Rd.
Lace covered tables and chairs will be set up in small clusters on the street pavement, with waiters serving tea and scones to lucky passers by.
The exact locations won't be disclosed, but a free morning tea offered to those who happen to stumble across the unique opportunity.
The Morning Tea 'happening' builds on an old tradition of taking a break in a busy schedule to meet up with workmates or friends. It will allow those in the CBD an opportunity to briefly meet with others over a cup of tea and a scone, offering a friendly exchange amongst the busy schedule of people going about their business.
Morning Tea is part of Living Room, a series of installations and activities funded by the CBD targeted rate that seeks to enliven the CBD's public spaces.
Other happenings taking place in the CBD from March until May as part of the Living Room series include Castles in the Sand, Proverbial Auckland, Axminster, Pallet Maze, Multicultimedia, Living Lamps, Skeletons in the Closet and Musical Bus Stops.
The Living Room series is a key action of the Auckland's CBD Into the future strategy, which aims to transform Auckland's CBD into one of the world's most vibrant and dynamic business and cultural centres.
