Panmure Stone Cottage open to the public

AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL

MEDIA RELEASE

6 April 2006

Panmure Stone Cottage open to the public

Panmure's historic stone cottage is open to the public and welcoming visitors following the approval of a management contract confirmed by Auckland City's Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee.

The Panmure Stone Cottage is scheduled as a category A building and was built around 1848. It was relocated from Mt Wellington to its current site, at 1 Kings Road, in 1969 and restoration was completed in 1972.

The recently formed Panmure Historical Society will open the cottage to the public on the second Sunday of each month from 11am to 3pm. The cottage may also open on request for tour groups and school visits by Auckland City on (09) 379 2020.

"We are delighted that this volunteer group has stepped forward to take up the mantle of managing this special site," said Councillor Penny Sefuiva, chairperson of the Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee.

"Volunteer groups with a keen interest in local history can make a real difference to building local knowledge and making the most of our heritage treasures. We hope that this new contract will encourage others to get involved and help the society preserve an important piece of local history."
