Pools To Close For Maintenance
Hutt City’s
indoor swimming pools are scheduled to close for their
annual maintenance periods over the next three
months.
Naenae Pool will be the first pool to close early next month to allow essential maintenance work to be carried out. The pool will be closed from Monday 1 May to Friday 19 May 2006 (inclusive).
“By programming the maintenance shutdowns we are usually able to prevent unexpected breakdowns. A pre-arranged schedule of regular preventative maintenance is cost effective, achieves greater coverage and lengthens the life of swimming pool plant,” says Marcus Sherwood, Council’s Leisure Active Business Unit Manager.
“This is considered preferable to deferring maintenance to a point when the swimming pools are confronted with large costs for replacing plant and unexpected, short-notice disruptions to service” adds Mr Sherwood.
During this time the pool will undergo a comprehensive maintenance programme which includes the re-varnishing of over 1,000 metres of structural wooden beams, upgrading of the ventilation system in the women’s changing rooms and replacement of the poolside disability lift.
In addition to the above work, the following will also take place:
- Replacement of the 1.5 million litres
of water in the pool;
- 21 pumps will be
overhauled;
- 17 fan motors will be overhauled;
- 26
electrical switchboards and controllers will be
serviced;
- 3 boilers will be cleaned and serviced;
-
3 heat condensers will be serviced;
- 3 heat exchangers
will be serviced;
- 7 heating coils will be
serviced.
Huia Pool will be closed from Monday 19 June to Friday 30 June and Stokes Valley Pool from Monday 17 July to Monday 31 July for their maintenance periods.
Leisure Active wishes to apologise for any inconvenience that the maintenance closures may cause to customers.
