Expert team helps take Auckland from good to
great
Five international experts in urban development engaged to review opportunities for economic growth in the Auckland region have been briefed by senior Auckland City officers on council initiatives to take Auckland from good to great as a world class city.
The review team, headed by Greg Clark, who advises the OECD and the London Development Agency on city and regional development, also toured key council projects in the CBD.
The team, with representatives from London, Toronto, New York, Johannesburg and California, was welcomed by Mayor of Auckland city, Dick Hubbard, who said he would be particularly interested in the team’s recommendations on how the Auckland city and region could improve its economic performance.
The team is in Auckland to contribute to the Metro Project as part of the region’s plan to set a bold agenda for the economic transformation of Auckland, within the Auckland Regional Economic Development Strategy (AREDS).
After a week of research and interviewing key players on issues facing the region the team will produce draft recommendations followed later by a more detailed proposed action plan for the region.
