Smarter Systems finalist in IT awards

Smarter Systems finalist in IT awards

May 23, 2006

North Shore Libraries' easy-to-use new computer system - dubbed Smarter Systems - is a finalist in three categories of the 2006 Computerworld Excellence Awards.

Smarter Systems was a joint project for improved and shared services, and to encourage collaboration, between North Shore City Council and four other councils across the Auckland region.

The two-and-a-half year project is a finalist in three categories - for Excellence in the Use of IT (information technology) for Customer Service, Most Successful Project Implementation for the Year, and Excellence in the Use of IT in Government.

North Shore City library services manager, Geoff Chamberlain, is delighted.

"Smarter Systems is a great tool and we've had some great feedback from people about how easy it is to use," he says.

"People particularly enjoy the fact that they can access the new catalogue system from home. They can do everything from look at which books they have out and when they are due, to renew them."

The winners of the Computerworld Excellence Awards will be announced on July 21.
