Tamaki Community Board by-election
Nominations are sought for a position on the Tamaki Community Board following the resignation of David Maka.
To be eligible to stand for the position, a candidate must be a New Zealand citizen who is enrolled as a Parliamentary elector anywhere in New Zealand.
The Tamaki Community Board's role is to ensure that local people have a voice on local issues and to provide a direct link between the community and the Auckland City Council. It monitors the facilities and services provided by the council in the Tamaki area.
Specific responsibilities of the board are: * to consider and report to the council on matters of interest or concern to the community * to overview service levels relating to road works, water supply, parks, recreation facilities, community activities and traffic management in the community * to identify community needs and make submissions to the council's budgetary processes for spending in the community * to keep in contact with community groups, special interest groups, residents and businesses in the community.
The successful candidate will stand on the community board until the next local body elections next year.
The nomination period is open from 30 May until noon, 27 June 2006.
The by-election will take place on 16 August 2006 to appoint the new board member.
Voters from the Tamaki area will be posted a voting document from 25 July 2006, and should have it completed and returned by noon 16 August 2006.
Preliminary results will be available after the close of voting on 16 August 2006.
