Canterbury Emergency Management update 2pm
Following the MetService issue of a severe weather watch for Canterbury, residents are advised to make preparations for the possibility of more snow. Weather forecasters are predicting a cold front will move through Canterbury tomorrow, bringing 10-15cm of snow at 300metres above sea level, lowering to 100-200metres in the afternoon.
Canterbury Civil Defence Emergency Management planner Jon Mitchell says local authorities and emergency response organisations throughout the region are currently putting resources in place to prepare for a further snow dump.
Residents are advised to:
- Listen to weather
forecasts, especially prior to travelling on roads.
-
Keep in touch with neighbours and relatives who may need
assistance.
- Ensure households have food and water
supplies for an extended period.
Farmers are advised to move stock to lower ground or shelter.
