Alternative Motorway Routes Suggested for Otahuhu

Transit New Zealand would like to advise motorists that while improvement work takes place on the Southern Motorway in Otahuhu, there may be delays on the Princes St East motorway bridge.

To avoid traffic congestion in the area, especially during afternoon peak (4pm to 6pm), Transit suggests using alternative routes where possible.

Motorists travelling south from Otahuhu, Middlemore and surrounding areas should access the Southern Motorway, via Great South Rd to enter the motorway on the East Tamaki on-ramp.

Those travelling north from these areas should use Mt Wellington Highway on-ramp to access the Southern Motorway.

Motorists are also asked to be aware that Trenwith St in Otahuhu is closed to motorists until early 2007.

Electronic message signs will provide route information and updates will be available on radio traffic reports.

Installation of the new motorway ramps at Princes St East and motorway widening to provide an additional lane will give greater capacity and allow traffic to flow more freely in the area.

The interchange is one of a number of important projects currently underway in South Auckland, including the Highbrook interchange which will provide a key motorway link to the new Highbrook Business Park.
