Valuable changes ahead for parks

Auckland City has created a new concept plan for the development of Underwood and Walmsley parks.

Over the next few weeks, local residents can have their say on the plans to improve the parks for the local community.

Auckland City’s senior landscape architect Nichola Vague says, “Underwood and Walmsley parks are currently undeveloped and underused but have potential to become valuable community open space.

“Their location on the Oakley Creek mean that the parks have an important role to play both in terms of the ecology of the creek and in providing a pedestrian connection.

“The concept for Underwood and Walmsley parks has developed through consultation with the local community. Key features of the design include improving access to and within the park, creating spaces that invite play and education, as well as make the creek a more attractive place for people.”

Details of the concept plans are available from Mt Albert, Mt Roskill and Avondale libraries as well as Wesley Community Centre. Open days will be held from 9am to noon at the fruit and vegetable market in War Memorial Road on Sandringham Road on 21 July and at the Beagle Avenue end of Underwood Park on 22 July.
