Representation arrangements for North Shore City
Representation arrangements for North Shore City
The Local Government Commission issued its determination on the membership and representation arrangements for North Shore City for the 2007 local elections.
The Commission was required to make a determination after appeals were lodged against the proposal put forward by the City Council. The Commission’s determination generally upholds the Council’s proposal, with some small variations to the boundaries of wards. The determination provides for the following:
The Council will comprise a Mayor and 15 members elected from three wards as follows:
Northern Ward
5 members
Central Ward 5
members
Harbour Ward 5
members
These will continue to be the following six community boards:
Albany Community Board
East Coast
Bays Community Board
Takapuna Community
Board
Devonport Community Board
Glenfield Community
Board
Birkenhead-Northcote Community Board
Each community board will comprise four elected members and two members of the Council.
A copy of the determination is available on the Commission’s website at www.lgc.govt.nz
North Shore City Mayor George Wood says the Local Government Commission has confirmed that the current system of local government within North Shore City is satisfactory.
“We must abide with this decision and get on with things as a city.
We have 12 months until the 2007 election process commences. In the meantime, North Shore City has plenty of issues to concentrate our efforts on,” he says.
