eLGAR wins Computerworld Excellence awards

Auckland City Libraries, in association with Waitakere, Rodney, North Shore and Manukau libraries, have won two categories in the Computerworld Excellence awards 2006.

The awards are:

- most successful project implementation of the year

- excellence in the use of IT in Government.

Both awards were the result of work carried out by the eLGAR libraries (Libraries for a Greater Auckland Region) on the Smarter Systems project to implement a new shared library catalogue.

Geoff Chamberlain, eLGAR Chairperson and North Shore Libraries’ service manager, says:

“This is a fantastic result and shows that local authorities can work together to achieve significant advances in service to the public. It is also recognition of the effort and work put in by all of the 1450 staff across our five library networks during the year that was spent on the implementation project.”

The Computerworld Excellence awards 2006 were presented at a gala dinner in Auckland on Friday, 21 July at the Hyatt Regency Hotel with over 450 guests, including the Prime Minister, Helen Clark, in attendance.
