Global climate change has been called
‘the most significant challenge ever to face human kind.’

The new film ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ highlights melting polar icecaps and permafrost; changing ocean currents; extremes of weather; expanding deserts; shrinking fishing grounds; and expected flooding of coastal cities.

There are things that we can all do to slow down climate change and to adapt to it.

A one-day workshop entitled, “Climate Change and You”, sponsored by the Royal Society and the Cathedral Chapter, is planned for Saturday 26 August at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Parnell, from 9am to 4pm.

Speakers include: Bishop Richard Randerson (Planet earth- ours to sustain), dr David Wratt (the science of climate change), Rod Oram (the impact on the economy), dr Richard Warrick (impact on the environment), dr Ralph Chapman (responses to climate change), Heather Staley (energy efficiency strategies). There will be a panel discussion, and a number of small discussion groups on topics such as practical ways to make one's home and workplace energy efficient, transportation: practical energy efficiency in, carbon neutrality: compensating for carbon use from fossil fuels, solar hot water, waste disposal and greenhouse gases, a theology of climate change: theology/spirituality and the environment.

There will be exhibits on solar hot water, hybrid cars and a bookstall.

Admission is free. (koha appreciated). BYO lunch. Tea and coffee provided.
