Job opportunity could be life saving

Job opportunity could be life saving

Summer employment at city pools is being offered to people on benefits who successfully complete a 12 week introductory lifeguard course.

In addition to learning water-safety skills, participants will be taught career planning, communication skills, drug and alcohol awareness, ethics, first aid, nutrition and working with people with special needs.

Michael Groom, Manukau Leisure Services Aquatics Operations Manager, says the course provides a great opportunity for people who are on benefits to develop the work and life skills that employers are looking for in today’s employment market.

“I encourage any person on a benefit to take up this opportunity.

“Since we started running this course three years ago, the majority of participants have obtained work, not just as lifeguards but in other related employment fields.”

WHAT: Manukau Leisure Services Lifeguard Training Programme
WHEN: Commences 21 August
WHO SHOULD APPLY: Manukau residents currently on a benefit; must enjoy working with people

The course is being run by Corporate Academy Group. For more information and to register your interest, phone 263 0949.
