Celebrate Adult Learners' Week at Auckland City Libraries
Auckland City Libraries is supporting Adult Learners' Week 4-10 September with a great range of workshops and activities running at your local community library.
Want to learn how to buy and sell on Trade Me, get creative with floral design, or discover the secrets of cooking Asian dumplings? Auckland City Libraries has a fantastic and varied range of not only practical workshops such as computer classes, but a mix of fun and creative activities.
Jennifer Marshall, learning services team leader, says Adult Learners Week is a great chance for people to have a go and try something new: "Adult Learners Week is being run in partnership with night class providers such as Selwyn College and Penrose High School whose tutors are giving "taster" workshops. Participants then have the opportunity to enrol in evening classes to extend their skills even further.
Throughout the year, libraries also offer a range of formal and informal learning opportunities for people to learn new skills whether by borrowing books, attending computer classes and author talks or by participating in book clubs.
Adult Learners' Week is a UNESCO initiative, which aims to strengthen adult and community education, raise awareness of and give better access to learning opportunities for adults, and to celebrate the efforts and achievements of learning providers.
While the courses are free of charge, participants will need to be an Auckland City Libraries member to book a place.
