$1.2 million sought from environmental fund
Bay of Plenty people are still very keen to look after the region’s environment.
Just over 50 applicants with projects worth $1.2 million are seeking funding from Environment Bay of Plenty’s Environmental Enhancement Fund this year.
Last year’s total was 81 – but it is still “a pretty good haul”, says the fund’s coordinator, Jo Smith. “We think it’s great that people are still so committed to helping the environment – and that we can support them with their work.”
A wetland walkway, rat control, and heritage restoration are among the projects vying for funding. The fund has $500,000 to allocate, “so we’ll be doing some whittling down over coming weeks, Ms Smith says.
The applications will now be evaluated, with allocations announced in Environment Bay of Plenty’s newspaper, the Regional Guardian, in early December.
