NZ Book Month at Auckland City Libraries
Auckland City Libraries is supporting NZ Book Month 18 September – 15 October with a great range of activities running at your local community library.
What NZ book would you take to an island? This is your chance to tell us about your favourite NZ book on the desert island reads wiki website. Vote for your favourite NZ author in our Cool 30: check out the displays at your local library. Now is a great time to join one of our library book clubs – ask at your local library for more details.
The purpose of NZ Book Month is to get more Kiwis reading New Zealand books. It is a brand-new initiative from Booksellers NZ that has the support of the entire book industry including libraries, bookshops, writers, and publishers.
Greg Morgan, Lifelong learning manager, says NZ Book Month is a great chance for people to celebrate the variety of New Zealand writing:
“Our communities tell and receive stories to define themselves and as a means of relating to their neighbours of different cultures and backgrounds. NZ Book Month invites us to find out about the books that mean a lot to others, and to share the word on what has entertained, informed and moved us."
