Mayor Welcomes Process for Flat Bush Schools

Manukau Mayor Sir Barry Curtis welcomes the establishment of a local advisory group by the Ministry of Education to guide the educational strategy for seven new schools being built in the fast-growing Flat Bush area of Botany.

He says it is essential that community involvement continues as plans for the schools are developed and the Flat Bush community takes shape.

"The advisory group established by the Ministry of Education will ensure the development of the new schools is co-ordinated and has the best possible links with the local community.

"I strongly encourage people with an interest in the future of schooling in Flat Bush to get involved in the process.

“Flat Bush will be the fastest growing residential area in the country over the next decade, with the population expected to increase from just a handful now to 40,000 within seven years. These educational facilities will be vital for the thousands of young people who will soon be living there.”

Sir Barry recently met with Education Minister Steve Maharey to discuss the process for building the new schools.
