Coastal & Development Management strategies released

After many meetings and reviews, coastal ‘walkshops’ and discussions, peer reviews and analysis, the Kapiti Coast District Council today released the long awaited Coastal Strategy for consultation along with the Development Management Strategy for the whole district.

Following further input from the community, the Council will be in a position to determine the future coastal development and management approaches as well as providing effective guidelines for future development in the district.

“Both strategies have been before the Council recently and, following final editing, have been produced for distribution to parties who have been involved in the consultation process to date and others who have indicated an interest,” Chair of the Council’s Community & Strategic Directions Committee, Councillor Gordon Strachan said today.

“Summaries of both documents are being mailed to a large group of people who will also receive a CD with both documents on it. A brief summary of each strategy is in a local paper and full copies of the strategies are available from the libraries, Council service centres and offices.

“The strategies are on the Council’s website and for those who are comfortable with the approach, it’s possible to make a submission on-line. Printed submission forms will be posted out and are also available from Council offices and can be down loaded from the website.

“We’re doing everything we can to make these important proposals available to anyone who is interested and to make it possible to provide input simply and easily,” Mr Strachan said.

“We hope all those who have taken the time to give their ideas during the earlier stages of the coastal strategy and development management strategy development will take the time to read and reflect and to make a constructive input to this penultimate stage in finalising how the community and the Council manage our coastal areas in future and develop our district in a sustainable manner,” Mr Strachan said.
