Have you got a champion poker face? Enter the North Island Poker Championships to find out!

SKYCITY Hamilton is running a series of 'No Limit Texas Hold-em Poker' qualifying heats. The 12 lucky Hamilton finalists will be heading up to SKYCITY Auckland over Labour weekend (21 and 22 October) to represent Hamilton at the North Island Poker Championships Grand Final.

Heats are running every Wednesday for six weeks at SKYCITY Hamilton from 13 September to 18 October at 7pm and 10pm. Each heat winner will receive cash prizes and accommodation at SKYCITY Auckland, along with the chance to be crowned the North Island Poker Champ!

SKYCITY Hamilton General Manager Geoff Hogg says that it takes more than luck to be a good poker player.

"Poker is a game of skill and staying calm under pressure, with a bit of luck thrown in! At SKYCITY Hamilton we welcome both beginners and regular players to come along and join in the fun," says Geoff. "It'd be fantastic to see a Hamilton player take out the North Island Champs."

SKYCITY Hamilton launched poker in December last year, following a worldwide resurgence in the game's popularity. The poker tables are open daily from 7pm until late. Stakes start from $2 (with $4 required to participate in a round of play) and players play against each other - not the casino or the dealer - to win the pot.

To register for the heats, visit the Poker Pit or the Cashier's Desk at SKYCITY Hamilton. The buy-in per entrant is $85. You must be 20 years or older to enter.
