Doggone - it's dress up time

WOW may have gone to Wellington but now we bring you PAW - Pet Art Wear is the latest concept from the creative team at the Nelson Arts Festival. It will be held on Labour Day Monday (Oct 23) at Albion Square - just opposite Halifax Vets in Bridge Street, as part of the Fulton Hogan Family Finale. PAW is open to anyone who comes along with their pets in Pet Art Wear - so if you have always thought your canine could be a cowboy or your parrot has a pirate look - now is the time to get them used to being dressed up so they can be part of the big parade. (Cats are not recommended - it's not a cat kind of thing.) Here are the details:

* Register for PAW by phone 548 3871 or email info[at]halifaxvet.co.nz (This gives us an idea of numbers)

* Pets Art Wear is defined as adornment for the pet (there are no sections). PAW is open to anyone who comes along with their pets in Pet Art Wear.

* Meet at the Deutz Lighthouse (the arts festival pavilion in Albion Square) at 3.45, ready to start walking at 4pm. All dogs on leads please and don't' forget a do-bag for those pre-show nerves!

* 4 pm the line up starts and numbers will be allocated

* 4.10 judging commences

* 4.20 the grand parade .All the PAW participants will parade around Albion square

* We'll be providing some great prizes.

The Fulton Hogan Family Finale is all about free or low cost activities for families. Attractions will include a bouncy castle, sumo wrestling, heritage tours, live music and digger displays plus story telling, roving theatre, music, an obstacle course, crazy bikes, a crash test demonstration from the police, conservation displays from DOC, interactive art at the Suter, Flick the little fire engine from Founders, WOW cars, big diggers the kids can climb on and a range of healthy foods on offer from stalls.
