Significant step in Link Road’s progress
With the awarding of Professional Services contract to Opus International Consultants for $1,528,422 over the 2006/07 and 2007/08 years, the Kapiti Coast District Council has taken a significant step in the progress of the Western Link Road, the chair of the Council’s Finance & Audit Committee, Barry Mansell, said today.
“These professional services are necessary to
make progress towards the day when the first bulldozer can
roll on the road’s construction,” he said., “and
that’s still expected to occur during 2007.”
The
committee approved the award of the contract at its meeting
today.
“We still need to organise further consents and approvals including resource consents, building consents, approvals under the Historic Places Act, the Reserves Act and other legislative requirements.
“The Historic Places Trust approvals are being managed by the South Pacific Archaeological Research Unit from Otago University but securing the other approvals needs additional professional input.”
Opus International will complete the further investigation and design to a level necessary to support the consent applications, and prepare and support those applications for Stage 1 of the road from Raumati Road to Te Moana Road.
One of the first tasks of the new contract is to assist with the preparation of an application to LTNZ for approval of additional funding to complete the project.
