Have your say on city’s sports parks

If you’re a user of one of the city’s 50 sports parks, Manukau City Council would like to hear from you.

Sports parks are reserves that been developed specifically to support sports and recreation activities ranging from a quick game of touch or a kick about with friends to more structured team games, athletics meetings or training.

Council strives to provide high quality sports parks, incorporating multi-use facilities and playing surfaces that meet the community’s sport and recreation needs.

To achieve this, it’s important that all aspects of park use, maintenance and management are considered within a management plan, developed in consultation with parks users and the wider community.

A draft sports park management plan covering the majority of sports parks in the city has been drafted and is now available for public consultation.

The plan includes policies around access, naming, bylaws, events and community involvement in the city’s sports parks. It also highlights goals for the future, which include encouraging the development of centralised facilities and shared community resources.

The 70 sports clubs based at the parks have been contacted directly for their views and all other interested parties are invited to make submissions by
15 December 2006.
