New look for Northcote Bus Station
New look for Northcote Bus Station
October 31, 2006
A new and improved Northcote Bus Station will be officially opened this Saturday at 11am as part of the Northcote Fiesta.
The new bus station layout provides for four bus stops, two new bus shelters and landscaping. A new pedestrian crossing between the car park and bus stops and the shops on the southern side of Pearn Cres will improve pedestrian safety along with new security cameras to be installed as part of the upgrade.
The improvements incorporate Northcote urban design aspects including a unique floral motif on the bus shelter.
The bus station is part of a comprehensive passenger transport system planned for North Shore City with upgrades planned for other suburban stations around the city. In addition to the upgrades, more transit lanes will be put in place allowing buses to move easily through traffic as well as to and from the Northern Busway.
The design has been endorsed by Northcote Mainstreet, the Northcote Birkenhead Community board, Auckland Regional Transport Authority and the bus companies.
The opening will be held as part of the Northcote Fiesta which features music and performances from local cultural groups.
