Toll Rail provides Christmas treat for Tokoroa’s Stathmore School
Toll Rail is to provide a free rail excursion for all the pupils from Strathmore School in Tokoroa who earlier this year had to deal with the terrible loss of one of their teachers Lois Dear after she was murdered.
The day out for the pupils originated from a call from one of the teachers who originally wondered whether Toll Rail could come and talk to their pupils about rail safety. Toll felt they could go one better than that and actually take the whole school out for a pre-Christmas treat as many of the children have never been on a train.
The train will leave Tokoroa at 9.30am on Monday November 13 and travel first to Matamata where the pupils will enjoy lunch and then travel through to Hamilton before making the journey back in the afternoon to Tokoroa.
At Matamata aside from lunch pupils will also be able to see a very special model railway thanks to the effort of local enthusiast Jakob Lenggenhager who will set up his display near where the train stops.
Matamata Community Trust headed by Alison Greenwall has got right behind the project to ensure the children enjoy their time in the township.
Toll Rail staff are looking forward to the day and feel it is the least they can do for a school that had to contend with losing such a much-loved member of staff as Lois Dear.
