C&R Now consults with public over stadium choice
Press release: C&R Now consults with public over stadium choice
Citizens and Ratepayer Now, the centre-right political ticket in Auckland City have announced the launch of "Stadium Choice" – a website to enable Aucklanders a chance to tell their politicians about which of the two stadium options they prefer for the 2011 Rugby World Cup – Eden Park or the Waterfront.
"Auckland has not been well served by politicians who have been cooking up plans for stadiums behind closed doors. There is clearly a depth of public feeling about stadium locations, and C&R Now feels it's important that citizens can email their councillors with a preferred choice - and give their reasons why", said Aaron Bhatnagar, Deputy Chairman of Hobson Citizens and Ratepayers Now and creator of the website.
"We've tried to make this as neutral as possible. We've used official images from backers of both options, and have sought to include their position as well", said Mr Bhatnagar.
"I am very concerned that a rushed red herring is being pushed by some city councillors for an option that is simply not possible. Auckland has two choices – Eden Park or a new stadium at the waterfront. The bicycle brigade at Auckland City Council are risking Auckland's rugby world cup dreams with their red herring", said Mr Bhatnagar.
"Auckland has around one week to make its feelings known. It's a short time frame, but that's what Wellington gave us. So here's the chance for the Auckland public to use our website to communicate their opinions to councillors who are listening and not fishing for red herrings", said Mr Bhatnagar.
