Destination Domain on 9 December

AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL
MEDIA RELEASE

16 November 2006

Destination Domain on 9 December

Two great free events will take place in the Auckland Domain on Saturday, 9 December and Auckland City encourages event goers to plan ahead and make the most of both events.

Auckland Museum will throw open its doors for the public to view the new grand atrium and glass dome with its Welcome Home Grand Opening Party, followed by Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park, celebrating its 13th anniversary with a spectacular concert.

The museum’s celebrations run from 10am to 7.30pm and will include tours of the new development, music and performances, both inside and out.

The same evening, the Auckland Domain will be filled with over 150,000 concert goers for Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park, which runs from 7.30pm to 10.20pm. This year’s event promises to be a packed show, filled with dancing, fireworks and some of New Zealand’s best musical talent.

To enjoy both events fully, Auckland City advises Aucklanders to avoid driving and instead make use of special public transport services available to both events on the day.

A shuttle bus will run from Britomart to Auckland Domain every 20 minutes between 10am and 8pm, as well as other special services operating from all over the Auckland region.

The normal link bus service runs along Parnell and Khyber Pass roads every 15 minutes. Alternatively, Boston Road and Newmarket train stations provide easy access to the event.

Visit www.maxx.co.nz for detailed public transport information on buses, trains and ferries.
