Stadium Complaint will be Laid with Auditor Gen
Media Release 22 November 2006
Complaint About Stadium Building will be Laid with
the Auditor General
"When did the New Zealand people become the enemy of their politicians?" said Elaine West.
"The heavy handed and threatening approach that officials are constantly dealing the public body is both unethical and unacceptable."
"If the Auckland City Council and the Auckland Regional Council
- do not presume that it is unlawful to make a decision on stadium building without proper information and without proper public consultation, and
- if Councils do not inform the Sports Minister, Trevor Mallard that Councils cannot act unlawfully
then I will lodge a complaint about Council's unlawful actions with the Office of the Auditor General."
"Not only does the Auditor General work with Councils on their long term plans but, since 2006, the Office has a statutory duty "to issue opinions on local authorities' Long-Term Council Community Plans (LTCCP) under sections 84(4) and 94 of the Local Government Act 2002."
"And" Ms West said "The Mayor of Auckland City, Dick Hubbard should know that in his charge to build a waterfront stadium - he does not have the people behind him."
