C&R Support for Mallard Bedpan Condemned
Action Hobson councillors Christine Caughey and Richard Simpson have slammed Councillor Scott Milne and C&R Now for supporting Trevor Mallard’s now-dead waterfront pipedream.
“We welcome today’s decision by the Auckland Regional Council to effectively kill off the waterfront stadium,” the councillors said.
“We were amazed that Councillor Milne and his C&R Now colleagues voted at the Auckland City Council to support the bedpan. This will be a big election issue next year.
“C&R Now has never stood for environmental responsibility but it used to stand for fiscal responsibility – but that’s just a joke now.
“Epsom MP Rodney Hide and Green MP Keith Locke are working with us on this issue because the bedpan makes neither economic nor environmental sense.”
The councillors called on Helen Clark and her ministers to lay the waterfront pipedream to rest on Monday and to think creatively about the best options for Auckland and New Zealand to host a successful 2011 Rugby World Cup.
