Parking at Christmas in the Park

AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL MEDIA RELEASE

7 December 2006

Parking at Christmas in the Park

Auckland City will be rewarding motorists who park properly at Christmas in the Park this weekend by leaving a candy cane and thank you card on their windscreens.

More than 150,000 concert goers are expected to attend Christmas in the Park at Auckland Domain on Saturday, 9 December.

While the council hopes people will travel to the event by public transport, it recognises that for some, car travel is the only choice.

This year, parking officers will be present to help marshal cars so everyone can enjoy the annual event safely.

Chris Geerlings, on-street parking manager says, "Parking officers often go unrecognised for the bigger role they play in Auckland's transport network. If parking officers were not around, it would be a free-for-all and parking at events would quickly become a battleground."

"By providing directions and helpful parking information, we hope to increase access to popular Auckland events and build on the positive experience," says Mr Geerlings.
