Avondale College student captures Auckland Photo Blog

The Auckland Festival of Photography new Photo of The Month for the November open theme was originally taken by Haylee Killip during the Auckland Photo Day competition in June. The stunning night image taken by Haylee, an Avondale College student, showed excellent use of exposure in the foreground with a tantalising backdrop of big city lights from the Ports of Auckland. All these factors made the young photographer’s “Untitled” image a stand out winner for the November Photo of The Month. Haylee has been studying photography at Avondale College as part of her chosen studies and the November Photo of the Month prize is a Philips Digital Photo Display worth $300.

This photographic selection is also a positive outcome for the wider Avondale College community and youth participation in the Festival. Other examples of Haylee’s photography can be seen on the blog too. The Auckland Photo Blog aims to connect communities through relevant visual arts online, a digital meeting place for all our differing photographic views and perspectives to generate a sense of identity and place for Auckland region and connect with other areas of interest. All communities are invited to show their photography on the blog. Established artists and professionals can join the challenge by creating images which extol the high artistic merit they possess.

The Auckland Festival of Photography proudly launched its latest PARTICIPATION project – Auckland Photo Blog – a feature online photographic diary for Auckland; it is the Festival’s new tool for digital photography in the region. This new section of the Festival website is a salute to the democratic nature of photography and allows for a unique and ongoing series of Auckland images making it the ONLY such creative project in the region.

The Photo of the Month will be a regular feature of the Auckland Photo Blog which is now accepting entries for an open theme during December see:

The dates for the 2007 Festival are 1st June to 24th June.
