Who Will Be South Island's Top Kids? Final Event Today.

Queenstown, Nelson and Christchurch compete with Dunedin
for the Top Kids' South Island Title

The Anchor Mega Milk Top Kids series has been taking place throughout the South Island since the first event in Nelson on November 22. With one day to go, the big question is: who will be the 'Top School' of the South Island.

Final results will be tallied after today's Dunedin event but preliminary results reveal that Queenstown leads the Intermediate grade having secured first and second places. In the Primary grade, Christchurch is ahead by a fraction.

Intermediate Grade:

"The stunning weather and lack of wind we had in Queenstown might have helped this region gain such a strong hold of the top two spots," says Anchor brand manager, Chris Earl. Queenstown's Mt Aspiring school leads with 473 points, just 3 points ahead of Queenstown's The Terrace at 470. Nelson's St Paul's School follows with 445 points.

Primary Grade:

"Scores in this grade are incredibly close," says Earl. "Now it's down to Dunedin school's to see if they can beat the top three team's scores tomorrow at the Caledonian Sports Centre."

Christchurch's South New Brighton School currently leads the pack with 344 points, but Nelson's St Paul's School is close behind at 341 points with Queenstown's The Terrace School trailing by just 2 points at 339.

"Although it's exciting to be on the brink of finding out who wins the overall title, the community spirit of the Anchor Mega Milk Top Kids events has been the winner in my mind," says netballer Adine Wilson who attended every event.

No child left empty handed with each receiving an Anchor Mega Milk Top Kids pack for competing. This included certificates, frisbees, hats, tattoos and Anchor Mega Milk products. Medals were also awarded for bronze, silver and gold placements with "Champions 2006" t-shirts adorning the backs of the gold-award winning teams in each region.

Around 5000 South Island children competed in the Anchor Mega Milk Top Kids series, billed as a "NZ Top Town for Schools".
