Summer Scene Coming To A Letterbox Near You!

NEWS RELEASE from Hutt City Council

13 December 2006

Summer Scene Coming To A Letterbox Near You!

The 2006/07 Summer Scene events brochure is about to come to a letterbox near you and residents are advised to grab a copy for themselves and send another to a friend.

50,000 copies of the brochure have been printed and are about to be distributed around Hutt City and throughout the greater Wellington region on Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 December.

The free, bright-blue 28-page booklet is bursting with over 75 events, exhibitions and activities set to take place in Hutt City from December 2006 until early April 2007.

Included in the brochure are details on the city’s major events including Te Re O Te Raukura at Te Whiti Park on 4 February, the Jackson Street Fiesta (which has a new date of 10 February), and the opening of the New Dowse, on 17 February 2007 - all of which form part of the City’s new summer festival.

The brochure also contains a host of events being run by the Leisure Active team at Hutt City Council including the return of the popular Twilight Movies in Riddiford Gardens. This January sees the screening of the animated comedy Shark Tale and the fantasy adventure The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

The 2006/07 Summer Scene programme also includes plenty of events to get families active over summer. The Push Play in the Park activities return to community parks and schools around the city between 8 – 26 January for two hours of fun and games for children aged 5 to 10 years.

Kev the Wandering Kiwi is back for 2007 and will be waddling along the paths and walkways of the Regional Park network with a series of family-orientated walks taking place throughout Upper and Lower Hutt from Thursday 11 January until Thursday 1 February as part of the Greater Wellington Regional Outdoors Programme.

Cycling events also feature prominently on the calendar with two professional events taking place in January and March, the Trust House Cycle Classic and the Trust House Women’s Tour of New Zealand.

In addition, to the professional events residents can cycle along the Hutt River Trail on 4 March as part of Bike the Trail 2007 or ride out to the Pencarrow lighthouse in the Avanti Plus Bike Pencarrow on 1 April 2007. Both are great family activities and are suitable for all ages.

The Shake, Rattle & Roll Concert will provide a wonderful trip down memory lane back to the 1950’s for an afternoon of rock ’n’ roll entertainment. So pack your bobby socks and blue suede shoes and join in the fun at Riddiford Gardens on Sunday 11 March.

For further information about the 2006/07 Summer Scene calendar, pick up a brochure from Council facilities from Tuesday 19 December or visit www.huttcity.info/events.
