Waimauku Structure Plan Feedback
‘Green rural surrounds’ was the strongest theme to emerge from a feedback exercise asking stakeholders how they saw Waimauku in the next 20 years.
Rodney District Council is undertaking a Structure Planning exercise for the Waimauku area in response to growth pressures in the area.
The council has analysed the 189 feedback forms returned in the initial phase of consultation for the Waimauku Structure Plan and the findings are published on the project website www.rodney.govt.nz/waimauku.
The ‘Rural village/township’ theme was also strongly represented, as was the theme ‘Retain the sense of rural community and the country/relaxed atmosphere’.
The feedback form also asked what people liked about Waimauku and the responses correlated strongly with how respondents saw Waimauku in the future.
Respondents overwhelmingly referred to ‘Rural character/green space and bush surroundings/fresh air’ as something they liked about Waimauku, with strong responses also given for the themes of ‘The people - community spirit/identity’ and ‘Village nature’.
The topic mentioned most as something to change about Waimauku was ‘SH16/Muriwai Rdintersection’. The other two strong themes to emerge were ‘Improve public transport (train/bus)’ and ‘SH16’ (other issues related to SH16 apart from those specifically mentioning the intersection).
“The findings of this feedback form process will be used in conjunction with the constraints and opportunities mapping (currently underway) and the policy framework to guide the development of options stage of the Structure Plan process” says Rodney District Council Policy Planner Ryan Bradley.
The feedback process also collected information on issues that respondents would like Council to investigate in the constraints and opportunities stage.
The project website has been updated to include a new expanded section for Frequently Asked Questions, many of which have arisen through this consultation process.
