Sculpture stolen from Epsom Community Library

A bronze sculpture has been stolen from the grounds of Epsom Community Library.

A library customer discovered the theft of the weta sculpture by artist Jonathan Campbell on Wednesday, 10 January at 3.30pm. The date and time of the actual theft is unknown.

Library staff and customers are upset and angry about the theft of the much loved artwork. “The weta was so distinctive and had become a true emblem for the library. The front courtyard will feel empty without it,” says Kala Bhana, Epsom Community librarian.

The sculpture was located on a pillar outside the library. It is 1500mm in length from front to back foot and made from bronze.

Anyone with information about the sculpture can contact Auckland central police on 302 6400.
