Take public transport way to go to Big Day Out

Take public transport way to go to Big Day Out

Fans heading to watch over 70 live bands including The Killers, Tool and My Chemical Romance at this year's sell out Big Day Out can save time, money and hassle by taking public transport to Mt Smart Stadium on Friday 19 January says the Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA).

ARTA General Manager Passenger Services, Mark Lambert says, "ARTA is coordinating public transport to big events like the Big Day Out so it's now easier than ever for Aucklanders to take public transport to big events and home again. Last year's U2 concert was very successful in terms of carrying huge crowds on public transport and we expect the Big Day Out will prove to be as popular.

Offering concert-goers an easy way to get to and from the music festival, public transport options include:
Getting there

* Continuous Stagecoach Special bus services leaving from Real Groovy, 540 Queen Street from 9.15 am until 2.00pm

* Frequent train services will operate throughout the day to Penrose Station located approximately 10 minutes walk from the stadium.
Getting home

* Stagecoach Special bus services will return from Gate B from 9.30pm to Wellesley Street outside the Civic Theatre where nearby NiteRider services from 1.00am, with 10 routes across the city, will take people home until 3am. Extra late (to 1.30am) Northern Express Buses will also run from Britomart D2 stop to Albany and Constellation Bus Stations at 45 minute intervals from midnight

* Return train services will depart at regular intervals from Penrose station at the conclusion of the event.

Concert-goers wanting more information on buses or trains should call the MAXX Contact Centre on 09 366 6400 or visit www.maxx.co.nz to find out which service works best for them.
