Developing one of city’s largest parks

North Shore City media release:
“Developing one of city’s largest parks”

January 30, 2007

People have one month to have their say on how Sanders Reserve in Paremoremo will be developed in future.

Sanders Reserve is one of North Shore City’s largest parks, and because of its location and rural landscape, there are different opportunities for its use than in more built up areas.

North Shore City parks officer, Alexis Manirakiza, says Sanders Reserve will not only offer the public a unique and interesting recreational experience, it is an area in which to enjoy active leisure activities.

North Shore City Council bought the land in 2002 for $3.1 million, and has approved a management plan. The 41-hectare site will provide a location for recreational cycling, walking, equestrian use, water access for canoeists and kayakers and a dog exercise area that will be of city wide significance.

“Sanders Reserve will address the need for further cycling and equestrian areas in North Shore City and is the first park in the city to offer such facilities. A dog walking and off-leash dog exercise area has been included in response to public submissions received during the Sanders Reserve Management Plan consultation process,” says Mr Manirakiza.

The upper slopes of Sanders Reserve boast panoramic views of the Waitakere Ranges and the Sky Tower in Auckland City. Other areas of the site have extensive views through to the upper harbour and to the estuary on the western boundary.

Open days will be held to discuss the draft development plan on Saturday, February 10 and Saturday, February 17 from 11am to 2pm at the Albany Village Library.

Submission forms will be available at the Albany Village Library or for more details, to view the draft plan, and to make an online submission please visit www.northshorecity.govt.nz.
