Come to the Auckland Botanic Gardens Summer Festival and join in our 25th birthday celebrations!
Each year the Auckland Botanic Gardens Summer Festival is a fantastic day out for visitors of all ages and 2007 is no exception – in fact, this year is even more special as we’re celebrating the Gardens’ 25th anniversary.
Activities will be spread out through the Gardens, encouraging visitors to see how the park has grown since the Gardens opened to the public for the first time in February 1982.

Gardener’s Market
Garden lovers will happily explore the Gardener’s Market, packed full of interesting plants, including some rare and heritage varieties. Pots, crafts, flowers and garden furniture will also be on sale.
Weekend Gardener Begonia Festival
Colour-rich displays of begonias in the courtyard will enchant and inspire followers of this flowering favourite.
For the kids
Free face-painting and mask making will be on offer in the popular Potter Children’s Garden. Kid’s favourites Fairy Clare and The Aunties will keep the young ones entertained, and eco-superhero Agent Ani will be taking Adventure Trails. Kids, come to the festival in fancy dress and join the ‘Garden Creatures Parades’ at 11am and 1pm.
Live music
The Gardens provide a peaceful and calming setting for visitors to enjoy music each year. This year’s headline act, the Brassouls, will play in the early afternoon.
But wait, there’s more!
Other activities include the ‘Gardener’s Olympics where strength will battle knowledge, the ‘Know Your Gardens Competition’ and train tours of the Gardens on the famous Wiri Rambler.
Learn all about worm farming, bee keeping and flax weaving and see impressive displays of botanical art.
Relax in the peaceful surroundings of the sculpture glade, overlooking the lake and treat yourself to the fine offerings of the wine and cheese tent.
