Avanti Plus Bike Pencarrow Promises Family
Fun
Avanti Plus Bike Pencarrow, Sunday 1 April, 11:00am – 2:00pm
It’s time to pump up the tyres, grease the chain and get out-and-about on two wheels to enjoy the fresh air and scenic views with the Avanti Plus Bike Pencarrow mountain bike ride on Sunday 1 April.
Two options are available for cyclists – 11km or 18km return. Both options promise exercise and lots of fun for all ages. The 11km route winds its way from Burden’s Gate in Eastbourne, along the gravel track next to the harbour to the historic Pencarrow Lighthouse.
The 18km option continues on to the true shores of Cook Strait‘s rugged windswept coast and Lake Kohangatera and then on to the shipwreck of the steamer Paiaka.
Taken at a leisurely pace, the ride should take families with children about two to three hours to complete, dependent on ability and number of stops. Drink stations and a portable toilet will be placed along the route for participants’ convenience.
While the ride itself is free to all, cyclists should register in advance by visiting www.huttcity.info/bikeride or calling Leisure Active on 577 8099 during normal business hours.
Registration forms and free bike safety checks are also available at Avanti Plus Lower Hutt, 40 Bloomfield Terrace, Lower Hutt.
Spot prizes are up for grabs including three chances to win an Avanti bike courtesy of Avanti Plus Lower Hutt including a Ridge Rider, a Spice and a 24-inch Black Thunder.
So pack your picnics, put on your helmets and join us at Burden’s Gate, end of Muritai Road, Eastbourne at 11:00am on Sunday 1 April. On the day registrations open at 10:00am.
The ride will take place wet or fine unless there are extreme or unsafe weather conditions. For cancellations listen to Newstalk ZB (1035am) or call Hutt City Council on 570 6666.
