Auckland: Public feedback sought

Public feedback sought re: long-term plan for Auckland region

16 March 2007

The Auckland Regional Growth Forum seeks public feedback on a sustainability framework that aims to ensure that integrated, prioritised and resilient decisions are made about the Auckland region’s future.

The Forum represents the Auckland Regional Council and all seven territorial local authorities in the region (Auckland, Manukau, North Shore and Waitakere Cities, and Franklin, Papakura and Rodney Districts).

Forum Chairman Mike Lee says the Long Term Sustainability Framework is a joint local and central government project to guide the region to a sustainable future by aligning regional strategies and government effort on infrastructural development. The Long Term Sustainability Framework is related to and will
inform the present review of the Regional Growth Strategy.

“We have to start thinking now about what kind of Auckland we want for the future, and make sure that our decisions get it right the first time,” says Mr Lee. “Our focus is shifting from one dimensional ‘growth’ to multi-dimensional sustainability.”

Members of the public are invited to view the framework and provide written feedback to the Forum by 30 April 2007. The document (which contains a submission form) can be downloaded from the following web address: www.sustainingauckland.org.nz , and hard copies are available from all local councils.

The Forum will provide an overview of submissions and actions arising on the above mentioned web site once it has evaluated the submissions.
