Panmure Roundabout: Send Dick Hubbard an invoice!

Joint Media Release

From Maurice Williamson MP for Pakuranga & Cr Dick Quax

Monday, 19 March 2007

“Send Mayor Dick Hubbard an invoice!’’

That’s the advice from National MP for Pakuranga, Maurice Williamson and Manukau city councillor Dick Quax to all those frustrated motorists trying to get through the realigned Panmure Roundabout.

“Angry commuters are telling me that it is taking 20 – 30 minutes longer to get through the Panmure Roundabout now that the Auckland City Council has reduced the number lanes entering the busy intersection along Lagoon Drive from two down to three, it’s created havoc and is unacceptable for those motorists from Pakuranga, Howick and other eastern suburbs of Manukau,” said Cr Quax.

Mr Williamson the National spokesman for Transport has spoken with Mayor Hubbard to express his concern about the delays the new configuration at Panmure has caused.

“It’s clear that the Auckland City Council has no intention of reverting back to the three lanes entering the Panmure Roundabout unless pressure is placed on it so Dick Quax and I would encourage people affected by these avoidable delays to send an invoice for the extra time that they are taking to get to their destination to the Mayor of Auckland”, said Mr Williamson.

People’s Choice which has already announced candidates including Dick Quax for mayor for the next Manukau local body election have an invoice on their web site addressed to Mayor Hubbard which can be downloaded at http://peopleschoice.org.nz/hubbard-crawl and filled in with the time spent sitting in traffic and the dollar value of that time.
