Kepa Road road works start Monday, 26 March

AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL

MEDIA ADVISORY

21 March 2007

Kepa Road road works start Monday, 26 March

Work to rebuild a section of Kepa Road, between Coates Avenue and the intersection with Ngapipi and Orakei roads, begins on Monday, 26 March 2007.

Reconstruction work is required to ensure this important link in Auckland City Council’s roading network remains safe for all users. During the work period, this section of road will be reduced to one lane at all times with traffic flowing with the peak direction.

“It’s always difficult when road works are required on an important arterial route. Safety is our priority but we are very aware of the inconvenience factor,” says Tony Kay, the council’s transport programme and contracts manager.

“We are making every effort to minimise disruption during this work, but we have to be realistic - there will be some delays for motorists.”

“We urge drivers to familiarise themselves with the detour routes and ask that they consider travelling outside of peak times if possible,” says Mr Kay.

During the work period, traffic movements along this section of Kepa Road will be as follows:

- one lane of traffic will operate westbound, towards the city, from 1am to 1pm weekdays

- one lane of traffic will operate eastbound, away from the city, from 2pm to midnight weekdays and at all times during the weekend.

To allow for a changeover in the traffic flow, Kepa Road, between Coates Avenue pedestrian crossing and a point 300m west of Nehu Road, will be closed to all traffic between:

- 1pm and 2pm on weekdays

- midnight and 1am on weeknights.

Variable message signs will be in place at key intersections in advance of the work to update drivers of traffic flow direction.

Detours will be in place to direct traffic via Tamaki Drive and Kohimarama Road. The work is expected to take five weeks, subject to weather conditions.
