Improvement work coming for Bullock Track

29 March 2007

Essential improvement work coming for Bullock Track

Bullock Track, beside Western Springs Park, will be closed for three months, from April to July 2007 to undertake an urgently needed retaining wall and footpath replacement.

The thoroughfare will be closed to all road users throughout the work to ensure the area is safe for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. Pedestrian access to Bullock Track from the Sefton Avenue stairwell will also be closed.

During the $750,000 project, power and telephone lines will be relocated underground, and new streetlights and footpaths will span the entire length of Bullock Track.

Councillor Richard Simpson, Transport and Urban Linkages Committee chairperson, says it is vital that a strong new retaining wall is installed to support the gradually deteriorating road.

"Bullock Track is a popular route for cars as well as heavy vehicles and the road is under a lot of pressure. Its location beside a steep bank is adding to the urgency of this repair work.

"Once this crucial project is complete, Bullock Track will be safer, stronger and a more attractive stretch of road," says Mr Simpson.

Pedestrians are advised to use the Western Springs Park walkway, Old Mill Road and Surrey Crescent or Great North Road during this time. Motorists are advised to use Old Mill Road and Surrey Crescent or Great North Road, and to allow additional time for their journey.
