State of the Environment

State of the Environment

30 March, 2007

The Hauraki Gulf Forum's membership is at full strength as it prepares to embark on the second 'Hauraki Gulf: State of the Environment Report'.

The first report, published late 2004, presented a wealth of information about environmental pressures and management of the iconic body of water.

A detailed project plan for the second report will be presented at the Forum's July meeting.

The Forum comprises representatives from iwi and from central and local government agencies with statutory responsibilities for managing use, development and conservation within the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park and its catchment.

Chairman Laly Haddon said all vacancies in membership were filled and welcomed everyone aboard.

Recent formal appointments and reappointments include:

* Betty Williams, Paul Majurey, Rangimarie Rawiri, Teddy Andrews, Liane Ngamane and Mr Haddon to represent tangata whenua;

* Dr John Tamahori and John Taunton-Clark to represent the Ministers of Maori Affairs and Fisheries respectively;

* Bill Smith and Wayne Walker to represent Rodney District Council, Dick Quax and David Collings to represent Manukau City and Arthur Hinds to represent Environment Waikato.

The Forum confirmed Mr Haddon's chairmanship at this week's quarterly meeting.
