MEDIA RELEASE - 03 APRIL 2007
Jafa & Jandals Fest Finale!
The second annual Fest has left is footprints
The curtain has drawn for another year on the Jafa & Jandals Fest, organised by the Kumeu Coast & Country. The second annual event was a roaring success with over 45 local business and thousands of locals putting their best foot forward and getting involved throughout the two and a half weeks.
There were many memorable moments from the Fest including the school art competition, outdoor concerts, hop harvests, art exhibitions, customer discounts, wine tastings, giant Jandals, dance lessons, Muriwai beach dig and of course the Fest finale, the Jandalight Ball, which took place on 1st April at RiverMill Estate.
Attendees of the Jandalight Ball were entertained by live music, a Ceroc performance, delicious food and some good old Kumeu fun and frivolity.
All those who attended the event were dressed to the theme, black tie and jandals, although some creative guests took it a step further, turning up in a full body orange Jafa outfit, having accessories made of Jaffa boxes, or creatively putting their own spin on the meaning of JAFA - “Just Another Famous Aucklander”.
Kumeu Coast & Country Acting Chairperson, Maureen Maxwell said, “The Jandalight Ball was a lot of fun. The venue was amazing, food was superb, music was fantastic and we all had an absolute ball. I can’t imagine a better finale for a truly memorable festival.”
During the evening the prestigious “Sole” Award was presented to the organisation that has shown the most commitment to the success of the festival.
This year the overall winner went to the members of the Kumeu Baptist Church, who astounded organisers with their efforts. The group used JAFA to stand for “Jesus A Friend Always”, created a billboard saying “Here for the soul” on a pair of jandals, and celebrated a Jafa & Jandals themed service. The runner-up award went to the Waimauku Garden Club and Waimauku RSA, who created a stunning display of jandals to commemorate the upcoming ANZAC Day.
The Fest is a way for the local Kumeu Coast & Country community to celebrate our laidback lifestyle. Jafa (Just Another Friendly Aucklander) represents our friendly attitude, while Jandals represents our relaxed lifestyle.
Kumeu Coast & Country Secretary, Lee McKeown says “We have been so delighted at the support our community has given the Fest. On behalf of the whole Jafa & Jandals team we would like to thank everyone who wore their jandals, ate their Jaffas and got involved. We can’t wait for next year!”
