A feast of writers in the library

AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL MEDIA RELEASE

11 April 2007

A feast of writers in the library

A feast of free author talks and more are taking place this April at your local library.

On 19 April, author and lawyer Alan Goodwin will discuss his book Gravity's Chain, a contemporary novel about a scientist grappling with global, national and personal dilemmas, at Mt Albert Community Library. On the same day, Remuera Community Library presents New Zealand author Nicky Pelligrino who will be talking about her second novel The Gypsy Tearoom, a touching story about a young widow's search for happiness in a small Italian villa.

Also on 19 April, St Heliers invites the community to a theoretical talk on dowsing and geopathic stress by dowser Syd Siriett, who will voice his opinions about harmful earth energies in houses and buildings and how they can be changed and rendered harmless.

In this month's Glengarry Writers in the Library event at the Central City Library, you are invited to hear author Sandra Gorter on 24 April. Ranger: The making of a New Zealand yachting legend, co- written by Gorter and Aroha Tercel, is an engrossing and meticulously researched book on the late Lou Tercel. Tercel overcame social barriers and financial hardship to design and build the A-class yacht Ranger, which dominated Auckland racing for more than a quarter century. During her reign, Ranger inspired an era of construction and design experimentation that would lead New Zealand to the pinnacle of success in the yachting world.
