Bus And Train To Chilli Peppers And V8 Race

PlaceMakers V8 Supercars and Red Hot Chilli Peppers fans will be able to leave their cars locked in the garage this weekend, as special transport services put on by the Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA) will have them arriving right at the door for each event.

ARTA’s General Manager, Customer Services, Mark Lambert says, “A special return train and bus connection fare is being offered to V8 patrons travelling to and from Pukekohe Park Raceway from Friday 20 April to Sunday 22 April.

“For passengers travelling from most stations on our rail network, the best fare is a $10 special event ticket which covers the train journey and includes a free connecting shuttle bus between Pukekohe Station and the raceway. A very convenient and cost effective way of getting to the venue”, says Mr Lambert.

On Friday 20 April, shuttle buses will meet train arrivals at Pukekohe Station. The return shuttle bus service will operate from the raceway between 5pm and 6.30pm to meet scheduled train departures from Pukekohe Station.

On Saturday 21 April and Sunday 22 April, buses will provide a continuous shuttle service to meet train arrivals at Pukekohe Station. The service will operate again in the afternoons between 4.15pm to 7.30pm transporting V8 fans back to Pukekohe Station for scheduled train departures.

Mr Lambert says, “For the two Red Hot Chilli Peppers concerts, on the Saturday, normal train timetabled services will operate to and from the concert.

“On the Sunday 22 April, normal timetable services will operate to the concert while special train services will operate at the conclusion of the concert to get fans home from the venue.

“As per the normal train timetable, rail services on the Western Line will terminate at New Lynn on Sunday 22 April”.

Passengers are advised to allow plenty of time for their journey. Vector Arena is located approximately 15 minutes walk from Britomart Station.

In addition to regular Link services, special buses will also deliver Red Hot Chilli Peppers fans to and from both shows. The special buses will begin departing Three Lamps in Ponsonby and Newmarket via the Arena and vice versa from 5.30pm both Saturday and Sunday. Return buses will depart the Arena for Three Lamps at approximately 11pm and 11.25pm and for Newmarket at approximately 11pm and 11.30pm. A standard fare of $1.60 will apply for all services.

Mr Lambert says, “Offering special services and fares for big events such as the PlaceMakers V8 Supercars and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers concerts is part of ARTA’s commitment to encouraging more Aucklanders to use public transport for work, school, fun and leisure activities.

“In just two short years, the numbers of people using public transport for special events has grown considerably. ARTA is committed to refining its services for our customers for such events as well as day to day travel on Auckland’s developing passenger transport network”.

Passengers planning to use the special services to get to the Placemakers V8 Supercars or the Red Hot Chilli Peppers concerts can get more information from MAXX on (09) 366 6400 or visit www.MAXX.co.nz.
