Stabilising works on Rimutaka Hill

MEDIA RELEASE

Transit conducting SH2 land stabilising works on Rimutaka Hill

Transit New Zealand is carrying out land stabilising works on SH2 for the next five months during the day.

Transit Regional Manager Graham Taylor says the work is to stabilise a section of the Rimutaka Hill Road bank, which has been subject to land drop-outs over the past two years in poor weather.

The stabilising work, sited 1km past the Rimutaka Hill summit towards Featherston, will take place during the day from 7am to 5pm with speed restrictions in place.

No delays are expected and two lanes will be kept available at most times. There could be some occasions where a lane is closed due to the constraints of working in this environment, but the road will be monitored to ensure traffic continues to flow.

Mr Taylor stresses this work is for safety purposes to ensure the integrity of the road.

Transit apologises for any inconvenience while this work is done.
